Help Build the Future of Carlson Homestead Quilting

More Than a Quilt Company

Quilting has always been about bringing people together. For generations, friends and neighbors gathered around quilting frames to stitch, laugh, share stories, encourage one another, and support their communities. Quilting bees were about far more than making quilts—they were about building relationships, passing down traditions, and caring for one another through every season of life.

That spirit continues today. Quilters gather in guilds, churches, retreats, classrooms, living rooms, and around kitchen tables, sharing ideas, teaching new skills, and creating quilts that celebrate life’s happiest moments and bring comfort during its most difficult ones. Every quilt carries with it the gift of time, care, and love invested in another person.

At Carlson Homestead Quilting, we believe God’s Word belongs in those stories. Our mission is to help quilters weave Scripture into the quilts they create, so each quilt can carry not only warmth and beauty, but also messages of faith, hope, comfort, and love that encourage families and strengthen communities for generations to come.

Investing in People

When I started Carlson Homestead Quilting, I didn’t want to just start a business—I wanted to build a workplace I would want to be part of.

At its heart, Carlson Homestead Quilting has never been about fabric or products. It’s about people. We exist to serve quilters and the communities they touch by helping them weave Scripture into the quilts they create. That same commitment extends to the people who choose to become part of our team.

I believe businesses grow when people grow. My goal isn’t simply to hire employees to complete tasks. It’s to build a team where people are respected, encouraged, trusted, and given opportunities to learn, contribute, and grow alongside the company.

I don’t want to simply manage people. I want to work alongside them, celebrate successes together, solve challenges as a team, and create an environment where everyone’s ideas are valued. I believe the best businesses are built by people working toward a shared purpose, serving one another with humility, and continually looking for ways to improve.

I also believe that serving others means doing our very best, even in the small things. Every product we create represents Carlson Homestead Quilting and becomes part of someone else's quilting journey. Whether it's a single quilt square or a wholesale order shipped across the country, I want our customers to know it was created with care, attention to detail, and pride in our work. Quality isn't simply something we inspect at the end—it's something we build into every step of the process.

As Carlson Homestead Quilting grows, I hope to create opportunities for our team members to develop new skills, take on greater responsibilities, and build meaningful careers. My commitment is to invest in the people who choose to invest their time, talents, and hearts into this company, because when we care well for our team, they’re able to better serve our customers—and together, we can make a lasting difference in the quilting community.

Current Opening

Production Specialist

Every product we create at Carlson Homestead Quilting begins with a commitment to quality and a desire to serve others. As a Production Specialist, you’ll play a vital role in bringing that mission to life by helping create the products that are shipped to customers and quilt shops across the country while also keeping our retail store stocked with the products our local customers love.

This position is based inside our retail store, Nuts & Bolts Fabric, in Edgemont, South Dakota. While the primary focus is Carlson Homestead Quilting production and fulfillment, there will occasionally be opportunities to assist customers and support retail operations as needed.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include:

  • Precision cutting of printed quilting fabrics and other production materials

  • Packaging our signature precut cotton quilt square sets and other Carlson Homestead Quilting products.

  • Preparing and shipping retail and wholesale orders.

  • Organizing and maintaining production materials and inventory.

  • Monitoring product quality to ensure every item meets our standards.

  • Assisting with inventory counts and production organization.

  • Helping improve production systems and workflows.

  • Occasionally assisting customers and supporting retail operations at Nuts & Bolts Fabric.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Takes pride in producing high-quality work.

  • Pays close attention to detail.

  • Enjoys hands-on, organized work.

  • Is dependable and takes ownership of their responsibilities.

  • Is self-motivated and able to work independently while also contributing as part of a team.

  • Is willing to learn and continually improve.

  • Communicates well and enjoys solving problems.

  • Is comfortable spending extended periods of time on their feet while cutting fabric and packaging products.

  • Has the physical ability to perform repetitive cutting, lifting, reaching, and other production tasks throughout the workday.

  • Shares our commitment to serving others with excellence.

Previous quilting or sewing experience is appreciated but not required. We’re happy to train the right person.

Because this is a production position, much of the day is spent standing, cutting fabric, packaging products, and preparing orders for shipment. While the work is rewarding, it is also physically active and requires repetitive upper-body movement and attention to detail throughout the day.

Growth Opportunities

This position begins as a part-time production role, but we’re looking for someone who wants to grow with Carlson Homestead Quilting.

As our company expands, there will be opportunities to take on additional responsibilities, help develop production systems, train future team members, and potentially step into production leadership. We believe in promoting from within whenever possible and investing in people who are committed to our mission.

As our company grows, so will our systems, technology, and team. We believe in equipping people with the training and support they need to grow alongside the business.

Position Details

  • Part-time

  • Based in Edgemont, South Dakota

  • Flexible scheduling

  • Starting wage: $15.00 per hour, with opportunities for increased responsibility and compensation as experience, productivity, and company growth allow.

Our Hiring Process

Finding the right fit is important to us—for both you and our team.

After reviewing applications, selected applicants will be invited to participate in an in-person interview. This gives us an opportunity to get to know one another, discuss the position in more detail, answer questions, and determine whether moving forward is the right fit for both of us.

Candidates who continue through the hiring process may then be invited to participate in a paid working interview. This provides an opportunity to experience the work firsthand while allowing us to see how you approach production, organization, quality, and teamwork in a real-world setting.

We believe hiring is a two-way process, and we encourage applicants to ask questions throughout each stage so that everyone can determine whether the position is the right fit.

Our goal isn't simply to fill a position. We're looking for someone who shares our commitment to serving others, takes pride in quality craftsmanship, and wants to help build the future of Carlson Homestead Quilting.
